JoAnne Michels

 
JoAnne is an accomplished speaker and writer, having spoken hundreds of times on topics ranging from Literature to Exploited Children.

As California Mother of the Year she championed the cause against Human Trafficking, lecturing widely for Operation Underground Railroad (who work globally to free and rehabilitate child sexual slaves and secure perpetrator arrests).

JoAnne and her husband are active in humanitarian efforts. They are parents of eight, all of whom earned advanced degrees and have participated with their parents in the following global service projects: The Sean Michels School for Special Needs Children, founded by their eldest son, Rowe (Kenya); Globe Theater restoration (London); Ayuda, providing dental care, (Belize), and Operation Underground Railroad, and several Habitat for Humanity projects. They have twenty-four grandchildren (one of whom JoAnne delivered on the freeway), who have also donated service including work in a leper colony (India), projects for orphanages in Mexico, Sri Lanka, and Granada; service at women’s shelters, and establishing a soccer team for girl’s in Guatemala.

JoAnne has taught early morning Seminary for eight years (youth 14-18), and has been Mutual President (youth 12-18), Primary President (children 3-12), and Boy Scout Leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has been an American Red Cross Instructor, (Advanced Outdoor Emergency Care) and teacher of multiple “Becoming A Better Parent” courses.
